Our Mission

Our mission is to strengthen the driving instruction profession in Ottawa by providing a united voice for licensed instructors, encouraging professional development, sharing knowledge and resources, and promoting safe, responsible, and effective driver education.

Representing Ottawa’s Licensed Driving Instructors

The Ottawa Driving Instructors Association (ODIA) is a not-for-profit professional association representing licensed driving instructors and driving professionals serving the Ottawa community. We bring together professional driving instructors to promote excellence in driver education, uphold high standards of professionalism, support our members, and contribute to safer roads throughout Ottawa.

Promoting Professionalism & Road Safety

Professional driving instructors play an important role in developing safe and responsible drivers. ODIA promotes high standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, quality instruction, and continuous improvement within the driving education community.
ODIA believes that when professional driving instructors work together, the entire community benefits. By bringing instructors together under one professional association, we can share knowledge, address common challenges, promote excellence, and contribute to a safer future on Ottawa's roads.

United Professionals. Safer Roads. Stronger Community

When professional driving instructors stand together, everyone benefits. ODIA unites Ottawa’s licensed driving professionals to strengthen our profession, support one another, and promote high standards in driver education. We work collaboratively with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), the City of Ottawa, and DriveTest and its stakeholders to address industry concerns, improve the road-test environment, and promote a safer, more professional experience for test takers, driving examiners, and instructors alike. Together, we can build a stronger driving instruction community, better driver education, and safer roads for everyone.

One Voice. One Point of Contact.

ODIA will provide a unified point of contact for the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), DriveTest, the City of Ottawa, and municipal by-law and licensing authorities on matters affecting driving instructors and driver training in Ottawa. By bringing licensed driving instructors together under one professional association, ODIA will make communication more effective, consistent, and constructive. We will work with government and industry stakeholders to identify challenges, exchange information, and develop practical solutions that improve the driver-training and road-test environment for instructors, examiners, test takers, and the community. At the same time, ODIA will serve as the collective voice of Ottawa’s driving instructors. We will represent and advocate for the profession in discussions with provincial and municipal representatives and ensure that the experience and perspectives of licensed instructors are considered when policies, regulations, licensing requirements, and other decisions affecting the industry are developed.
